AGE LEVEL CALCULATIONS

Soloist Age Level: The age level for all soloists is determined by their age the day of the competition. A soloist may not “bump up” in the solo division, they must compete in the level that corresponds with their age.

Duo & Trio Age Level: The age level of all duos and trios is determined by the average age of the dancers the day of competition.

Group/Line Age Levels: The age level of a group is determined by the average age of all dancers the day of competition. Each routine is calculated individually based on the registered dancers.

Adult/Pro Division: Any performance that contains a Teacher and/or Adult 19 years of years of age and above must compete in the Adult/Pro level. Although this level is eligible for the individual talent title and overall soloist awards, ALL Adult/Pro division performances are ineligible for overall duo, trio and group awards in the talent portion of the competition.

AGE BUMP RULE

The average age determines the age range into which you may enter. For dances with two or more dancers, add the ages of all the contestants, and then divide by the number of contestants in the routine. Drop the decimal point when averaging the ages, i.e. an age average of 12.5 would compete in the 10 to 12 year old division.

Duos and trios or groups will compete no more than two age divisions younger than the oldest dancer, regardless of average age.

In the event that a student is in two routines that conflict in the same age category, one of the routines may bump up an age division enabling the student to compete in both routines. Bumping down is not an option. If you need to change an age division, please contact APADC to make the change.

PROOF OF AGE

In the event that a performers age is challenged, proof of age will be requested by APA Dance Challenge officials. All participants are required to have proof of age readily available.
